At Africa Energy Week 2025, Ismail Sid Ahmed, Vice President and Country Manager for Mauritania at Kosmos Energy, joined a panel on the MSGBC Basin’s growing role as a leading energy hub for West Africa. The discussion focused on how strategic investment in transportation, power generation, and storage infrastructure can strengthen regional integration and accelerate sustainable growth.
Reflecting on Kosmos’ role in developing the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) project, Ismail noted that when the company entered the basin in 2012, it made three major discoveries—including GTA—within just three years. With the first LNG cargoes now being exported, he described this achievement as a major milestone for Mauritania, Senegal, and the broader region.
Looking ahead, Ismail emphasized Kosmos’ continued commitment to scaling this success and advancing projects that deliver lasting impact for partner countries—creating opportunities, strengthening regional collaboration, and building the foundation for long-term energy security.
