In mid-2007, Kosmos discovered the Jubilee Field in the deep waters offshore Ghana, one of the largest oil finds in West Africa during the last decade, followed by three successful appraisal wells. Kosmos also discovered the nearby Odum Field, which confirmed the company had found a new, significant oil province in the region. Subsequently, Kosmos made two additional oil finds in the area, which expanded the scale and importance of the original discovery.

These achievements are no accident: Kosmos team members are recognized throughout the industry for their exceptional technical abilities. The company’s geologists and geophysicists routinely investigate opportunities with an out-of-the-box mindset to find oil in areas labeled unprospective. And the production and development staff includes petroleum engineers, drilling managers and other operations professionals who optimize the recovery of oil and gas by coupling industry best practices with state-of-the-art deepwater experience and technology.

In 2007, the World Junior Oil & Gas Congress honored Kosmos with the “Explorer of the Year” award for the company’s technical skill set, embodied by its discovery of Ghana’s Jubilee Field.

The Kosmos team, modest in size relative to much larger companies operating in West Africa, is accustomed to working together. They have achieved serial exploration success during joint tenures at other global E&P companies. For instance, in 2001, most of the Kosmos team – including management – worked for Triton Energy, a medium-size U.S. independent E&P company at the time. The group discovered oil offshore Equatorial Guinea and then led the record-setting development and production of the find in 2,500 feet of water. The deepwater scheme included the design and installation of sophisticated subsea architecture, which was connected to a floating production, storage and offloading vessel (FPSO) in the Gulf of Guinea.

Major field discoveries and development programs in which members of the Kosmos team have participated include:
